KARA debuted on March 29, 2007, under DSP Media with the album The First Blooming. Initially, they had a four-member lineup consisting of Park Gyuri (박규리), Han Seungyeon (한승연), Nicole Jung (니콜 정), and Sunghee (김성희). The group was often compared to Fin.K.L, but they struggled to gain mainstream success in their early years.
Breakthrough and Rising Popularity (2008-2010)
In 2008, Sunghee left the group, leading to the addition of Goo Hara (구하라) and Kang Jiyoung (강지영). With this lineup change, KARA released "Rock U," which showcased a more upbeat and youthful image. Their major breakthrough came with "Honey" in 2009, followed by the viral hit "Mister" in 2010, famous for its signature "butt dance."
